So many stories of people being placed with children, keeping them for a year, then they get taken and go back to their parents.
The foster parents are then left heart broken, literally. Many of the cases I read about, they stopped fostering because they didn't think they could handle that heart break again.
That is something serious to consider.
Can we handle the heart break?
It's not just "us" anymore, but how will it affect Riley and Addison?
Having a "brother" or "sister" for a year (or more, or less)...getting attached, and then one day the child has to pack up and leave, just like that, just as if they were never there.
Adam said he prayed about it today, and that "God didn't tell him anything yet". So, praying we will do, praying and waiting.
I've been praying, I feel peace about it so far. Still have lot's more praying to do.
We've also decided, to put our car up for sale, and once it sells, buy something like...a mini-van.
=-)
What we are praying for:
Guidance.
Strength in our marriage.
Transformation of our lives.
Our car to sell.
The ability to hear his voice and obey.
i think that your consideration is awesome! i have ALWAYS wanted to be a foster parent, too. it seems like such an important role that gets overlooked. thankfully there are people out there that God has in mind for such a task, as hard as it may be! you and your hubster are certainly in my prayers!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how sad it would be to see a child leave after raising them. I'm glad you guys are really praying about it for everyone involved, it's a huge but wonderful blessing!
ReplyDeleteToday we had a permanency hearing, and despite everyone involved "ripping mom a new one" for her lack of compliance with the case plan, they all recommended reunification be the primary goal. It made us sick! The judge gave "mom" three more months "out of compassion" and we're terrified that we'll lose our little girl. DO NOT ENTER INTO THIS LIGHTLY! Make sure that you have the strength to let go if need be. I'm not sure we'll be able to...
