Tomorrow is the much anticipated Orphan Sunday! I know exactly what to expect from my church...and I'm praying it turns out to be what it's suppose to be about. God and Orphans, and nothing or nobody...else. Still pretty excited! Our church is starting an adoption fund, which rocks, and they are giving out information on adoption and a summer missions trip to work in a Honduran orphanage. Praying many eyes will not only be opened, but that people will be called to act.
What can YOU do to care for the Orphan? No, we are not all called to adopt, but we are all called to take care of the Orphans. You can pray for them, you can sponsor an orphan, you can donate money to an orphanage or an organization that works in helping the orphans in some way. You can help a family who is adopting, not just financially, but help help them with fundraisers etc. You can adopt. You can do foster care. Volunteer at your local children's shelter or CAPA home. Talk to your pastor about starting an adoption fund in your church if you do not have one. Get in touch with an organization or orphanage to see what they need, and start a "clothing drive" or "shoe drive" or "insert the need drive" in your community/church.
There are many different ways to do your part.
Deut. 15:7. If there is a poor man among you, one of your brothers, in any of the towns of the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart, nor close your hand to your poor brother; but you shall freely open your hand to him, and generously lend him sufficient for his need in whatever he lacks.
